Corporate Housing Providers Association

The Corporate Housing Providers Association (CHPA) is the only trade association dedicated to the corporate housing industry. As the industry continually evolves, members gain insight and resources on how to stay competitive through their involvement with CHPA. CHPA, as the voice of the corporate housing industry, offers networking, educational and informational opportunities to corporate housing providers around the world.

CHPA's Vision

Executive Summary

 

In July 2001, CHPA volunteer and staff leadership developed the Association's first strategic plan. As part of that process, this group identified and created:

  • Assumptions about the industry's future environment;
  • The core purpose, values and envisioned future for CHPA;
  • A preliminary set of mega issues;
  • Goals assessed with the conditions surrounding those goals; and,
  • accomplish the goals.

The following years, staff led annual Board review and updates to the plan. With most of the original goals met, CHPA volunteer and staff leadership met in September 2005 to revisit the plan in its entirety. Participants in this process were the CHPA Board, Committee Chairs and senior staff.

 

CHPA's Core Purpose and Core Values remain

unchanged and were reaffirmed.

Core Purpose:

To improve each corporate housing company individually and the corporate housing industry collectively

 

Core Values:

  • Respect for diversity of opinion and perspective
  • Trust and willingness to openly communicate
  • Importance of knowledge based decisions
  • Volunteerism on behalf of the industry must be both  rewarding and enjoyable
  • Commitment to education and continuous learning
  • Professionalism and ethics within the industry
  • CHPA listens and responds to the needs of its members

Envisioned Future: CHPA's envisioned future was reviewed and streamlined for clarity. This statement captures what the Association leadership strives to achieve through its programs and services.

Corporate housing will be a universally recognized and

utilized segment of the lodging industry; and,

CHPA members will be the most successful and profitable companies in the industry.

 

CHPA Leaders Identified the Following Goals for 2005-2007:

 

Member Value: CHPA will increase the value of membership in the organization and members will understand the benefits of belonging.

 

Industry Relations: CHPA will establish strong relationships with related industries and other associations in order to advance its purpose and achieve its vision.

 

Brand: CHPA will increase the awareness of the corporate housing segment to the lodging industry.

 

Education: CHPA members will benefit from quality, valued and easily accessible education and training to help them operate their businesses more efficiently, professionally and profitably.

 

Communication: CHPA will be the leading source of information on corporate housing, both internally and externally.

 

Industry Advocate: CHPA will be a resource for members on local, regional and national issues that have larger implications for the corporate housing industry.

 

Committee Objectives

These leaders also identified assumptions about the industry's future and the implications of those assumptions. With these societal, legal/legislative/regulatory and technological implications in mind, the group went on to identify the objectives and metrics of success for each committee.

 

Education Committee

  • Development of the industry specific corporate housing certification program
  • Establish industry terms
  • Establish reference sources for use in the corporate housing industry Increase our understanding of the educational needs for content, delivery and priority
  • Session evaluations tally
  • Increase our ability to deliver educational programming desired by the membership
  • Facilitate round table discussions
  • Increase use of non-traditional delivery mechanisms, including technology

 

Industry Relations Committee

  • Expand network connection events to include affiliated industries
  • Identify potential associate members for follow up
  • Enhance the Buyer's Guide to make it a more useful resource
  • Act as spokes group for associate members
  • Capitalize on industry related opportunities on which we can make an impact (other conferences, trade shows, etc. where we should have a presence)
  • Establish relationships with key external organizations

 

Conference Committee

  • Create ‘playbook' on how to create a successful conference
  • Determine a regular rotation cycle
  • Healthy mix of speakers, inside and outside to address current topics for all levels of attendance
  • Increase profits to conference
  • More new companies and depth in current companies
  • Create consistent image to represent CHPA
  • Make conference information available to non-attendees in some format

 

Membership Committee

  • Increase our understanding of why people join and why they stay
  • Provide feedback from renewing and non-renewing members (provider/associate)
  • Recruit 37 new members
  • Engaging new members from 2006, so they experience' the value and renew in 2007
  • Improve the level of connection of members at both national and regional levels
  • Continue offering Regional connection
  • Regional luncheons
  • Network connection events
  • Create programs to deliver recognition of exemplary members
  • Building Awards Program: clarifying criteria; providing samples on the Website to ‘demystify' the selection process; proactive marketing to increase submissions
  • Establish and increase the number of group purchasing programs to increase value of membership
  • Credit card processing, affinity programs, etc.

 

Communications Committee

  • Drive members to Website

  • Drive usage of online discussion groups and information sharing

  • Compile on line reference library with a searchable database

  • Communicate certification progress

  • Create greater awareness of the value of CHPA programs and services

  • Increase public understanding of CH

  • Create press releases on pertinent issues to CH industry

  • Provide supporting documents for industry relations committee and immediate past president

Advocacy Goal – Task Force TBD

  • Create a tracking mechanism for local, national and state legislative issues
  • Obtain funding sources to address legislative issues
  • Educate members on the importance of communicating legislative issues (Communications committee)

 

Each Committee will create an annual action plan to meet their strategic objectives and report its progress to the Board.
